Funding for Vallence International Connections Awards will be unlocked as donations are matched.
Enabling as many students as possible to have an international experience during their time studying at York remains a priority for the University. Philanthropy has already created a range of bursaries to support students wishing to work or study abroad, and we are particularly grateful for generous gifts from Santander Universities UK and the University of York in America (UYA), through which alumni in the USA give, that have supported these awards.
I was able to represent the University at a laboratory exchange programme in Taiwan: I was the only participant from a European university, and I really enjoyed sharing English culture with Malaysian culture. I created important networks and have brought back the opportunity to connect the University with National Taiwan University (NTU). The bursary helped to cover my flight, expenses and accommodation, without it I would never have had this amazing opportunity.”

We are pleased to announce that, recognising the unique benefits to young people of international experience, an anonymous donor has set down a matching challenge to encourage new support in this area.
The Vallence Matching Challenge will match your gift £1 to £1 if you commit to a regular gift to international mobility, and at 50 per cent for one-off gifts. By making a gift this year before the end of April 2017, you can help us unlock up to £10,000 of funding for four new Vallence International Connections Awards. These awards will focus on funding students who would otherwise not be able to afford to work or study abroad, particularly focusing on experiences in non-English speaking countries.
