Shaping minds

Your help allows us to give financial support to independent critical thinkers of the future. We want York students to prosper in a global workplace and contribute to the diverse skills and perspectives in our international community.

Friends of the library

Our new Friends of the Library and Archives giving circle, launched in 2016, helps develop our collections and facilities. As many of you will know, the University of York Library and Archives are so much more than study resources, learning spaces, archives and special collections. They are a nucleus for ideas – a physical and digital space for students, staff and researchers to be inspired and explore innovative ideas and world-class research.

Our new giving circle will allow us to develop our collections and facilities to improve the experience of all library users, in the physical and digital realms, and will assist in the purchase of items that we could not otherwise afford. Membership starts at just £35 per year and to date we have 37 members – thank you!

The Wolfson Foundation

Since the academic year 2012/13, the University of York has benefited hugely from The Wolfson Foundation’s commitment to the humanities. The Foundation generously funds the Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities at York. This programme has enabled us to attract and welcome five cohorts of outstanding students, including the five Wolfson Scholars who will begin their postdoctoral studies with us this forthcoming academic year 2016/17. This amounts to 18 doctoral scholarships, three of which have been match funded by York. This has had a truly significant impact on our thriving, dynamic and inclusive academic community, and has allowed the study of some truly novel and valuable research avenues: from the concept of the ‘noble body’ in the seventeenth century Netherlands, to experiencing the household farm in medieval Iceland.
