Your help allows us to give financial support to clubs, societies and student projects around the University
Getting active is sometimes seen as a chore, but with the opening of our new YorActive trail that is set to change. This student-led initiative, championed by York Sport Union President Grace Clark, opened in July, and was made possible thanks to alumni gifts of £10,000 through YuFund and a generous £12,600 grant from YorVenture. The trail is a free-to-use, fun, accessible fitness route, open to everyone. The 5km route snakes through campus and some of the nicest surrounding green spaces, and features five sets of outdoor gym equipment.

Ironically nicknamed over the years the ‘Vanbrugh Paradise’, Vanbrugh Piazza, an original feature of Andrew Derbyshire’s 1968 masterplan for the University of York, has now been renamed Greg’s Place in honour of Greg Dyke, our departing Chancellor, who funded an extensive redesign project. Greg’s Place was officially opened in June and we hope you will enjoy the new space. Lots of activities are planned, such as art installations, open air cinema events, pop-up activities and performances.
NEW TRIBUTE GARDEN
We are pleased to announce that you can now mark the lives of people associated with the University in a special Tribute Garden. Situated in the Quiet Place, the garden features a specially designed sculpture with bespoke leaves. Tributes will also include the planting of your choice of native tree in the Diamond Wood on the east side of campus.
YUCYCLE FOR SPORT AT YORK
For the last three years the University, with support from YorkSport and the Students’ Union, have hosted an annual community cycle ride, YuCycle, to raise money for sports development and bursaries at York. Our fourth event took place in June and we are delighted that more than 250 riders joined us, raising over £12,000 towards our causes and much more in sponsorship for other causes. We are always keen to hear from people who would like to take part in major fundraising events, such as the York Marathon, to raise money on behalf on University.
