The Department of Music is a vibrant hub of musical creativity at the University, reaching across our city and far beyond. Your support has helped to ensure that the Department can continue to thrive for future generations.
Acknowledged as a world-leader in its creative, practical and scholarly approach to music, the Department of Music aims to support and inspire future generations of musicians by providing advanced and extracurricular musical training to all those with outstanding talent and ambition. In 2015/16 the Department celebrated its 50th Anniversary, and the Music at 50 Fund was launched to help to ensure continued success.
The Music at 50 Fund aimed to raise sufficient funds to provide financial assistance to:
- outstanding musicians, through scholarships, bursaries and travel prizes, to inspire the most ambitious students to gain additional experience;
- host professional seminars and master classes;
- purchase high quality instruments.
To date, the appeal has raised over £30,000, with an additional gift from donor Colleen Copley who has sponsored Tenor section in the University of York Department of Music in memory of her late husband, Trevor Copley, who held an Honorary Doctorate from the University in recognition of his work with St Leonard’s Hospice.
The Department has been delighted by the generosity of alumni and friends, and extend sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the appeal and who continues to give regular donations to the University.
