We are delighted to announce that a charitable foundation based in Malaysia has pledged to support 50 University of York students, through the Sharifah Sofia Alkbukhary Foundation Scholarships scheme.
The Albukhary Foundation focuses on facilitating access to education for all people, regardless of economic background. It will sponsor 10 students annually from around the world, over the next five years, to study at the University of York in any academic discipline.
The Sharifah Sofia Albukhary Scholarship, named after an alumna of the University, aims to maximise the opportunities available to students wishing to enter higher education, and increase their employability prospects wherever they choose to work.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Koen Lamberts, said: “We are enormously grateful to the Albukhary Foundation for this gift. From its earliest days, the University has recognised the value of welcoming students from around the world.
“This gift reflects our commitment to creating new international opportunities and ensuring that a global outlook continues to be at the heart of our institution.”
Applications for the award are now open, and we hope to welcome our first scholars in September 2017.
