Mentoring fellow graduates and current students can have an invaluable impact on their lives.
Alumna Clare Third, who accessed our YuMentor programme via LinkedIn, wanted to join us in thanking all those alumni who volunteer by sharing her story.
I work in humanitarian aid. When I was just starting out I contacted fellow graduate Jenny Archibald (in the same field) through the YuMentor scheme on LinkedIn. She gave me some advice, which was really useful. We then didn’t have any more contact for about a year. During that year, I got a job in the humanitarian field which took me to Iraq. I went to lunch with a colleague while I was there and another of her friends joined us from another organisation. After about 10 minutes of chatting we realised that we’d already spoken – it was Jenny! It was lovely to meet her properly and we became friends.
“Above is a picture of us in Iraq (I’m on the right). I think the YuMentor scheme is brilliant, so I thought it might be nice to share the story!”
