Challenging our students with your support…

Great minds thrive at York. We challenge our students to think independently and make the most of our amazing range of global study opportunities, work experience, clubs, societies and outstanding sports facilities. In 2016/17 more students were supported by you than ever before.

Exploring new horizons

Students on our flagship International Study Centre programme headed to universities in South Africa and the USA. Hosted by the University of Cape Town, George Washington University in Washington DC and Mount Holyoke in Massachusetts, the study centres combined excursions with seminars and workshops exploring entrepreneurship, cultural and political issues. Further study centres are planned for Russia, China and the USA. Thanks to your support for our International Connections Fund, we have been able to fund 50 students with overseas travel, study and experiences to help further their eduation.

Thanks to your help, YuFund was able to fund 16 students to lead the ‘Hamlet in Elsinore’ exhibition. Part of the York International Shakespeare Festival, this provided them with work experience, a great skill to add to their CVs.

In the sporting arena, your donations helped the University of York Volleyball Club with a spike trainer to improve their training sessions. The club, which actively promotes inclusivity sport by also training and competing in sitting volleyball, is now in a position to be included in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) league tables!

Adam Davies, the Club’s treasurer, had the following message to pass on to you: “On behalf of UYVC, I would like to thank those who have donated and supported us. We are very all very excited to see the outcomes of your generosity.”

Your donations are having a direct and positive impact in improving the skills and experiences of this generation of York students. Thank you so much!
