Donation marks 50 years of Medieval Studies

Department celebrates and scholars benefit

The Centre for Medieval Studies was delighted to receive a donation in honour of its 50th anniversary recently.

Currently celebrating its 50th (over the 2017/18 academic year), the Centre for Medieval Studies (CMS) was pleased that an generous anonymous donor chose to mark the occasion by setting up Anniversary Scholarships in the Centre’s name.

The scholarships will support the Centre’s MA students with a partial fee waiver of £5,000. The same donor has also set up the CMS Anniversary Research Travel Fund, which provides small grants to students travelling to archives, conferences and places of interest.

CMS is one of the largest and longest established providers of Medieval Studies courses in the UK, combining world renowned knowledge, expertise and research from across the University. It can also draw on the unrivalled resources available in the medieval city of York to provide a wealth of study material and inspiration to inform exploration of this fascinating period in history.

Philanthropy is now helping the Centre to attract the brightest and best students from across the world to its graduate programmes, and will enable more talented students to access postgraduate education.
